Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden on Tuesday declared the appointment of Ada Limón as the nation’s 24th poet laureate for 2022–23. She will presume the workplace in the slide.
“Again and yet again, I have been witness to poetry’s huge electric power to reconnect us to the globe, to let us to heal, to love, to grieve, to remind us of the whole spectrum of human emotion,” Limón said. “This recognition belongs to the academics, poets, librarians and ancestors from all around the globe that have been lifting up poetry for decades. I am humbled by this possibility to do the job in the services of poetry and to amplify poetry’s skill to restore our humanity and our romantic relationship to the entire world all around us.”
Limón is the creator of 6 poetry collections, which include The Carrying (Milkweed Editions, 2018), which received the National E book Critics Circle Award for poetry.
She serves on the M.F.A. faculty of Queens College of Charlotte, in North Carolina.
