Exchange Club names students of the month, year – InForum

The West Fargo Exchange Club Student of the Month for March for Sheyenne High School is Sherry Yan.

Yan was nominated by Kelsey Johnson for Student of the Month Award. Sherry’s parents are Guiping and Hui Yan.

Yan participated in the 2021 National Speech and Debate Tournament; she is part of the Sheyenne

National Forensics League of Outstanding Distinction. Yan won the 2021 Scholastic Art and Writing

Personal Essay and Memoir Silver Key Award. She participated in three years of All-State Orchestra and was the 2022 National Congress Qualifier/Alternate. Sherry received the Four-Year Award for Math Tutoring for UCAFM, she participated in Student Council, received the Academic All-American Award and 4-Year Federation-Superior Award. She has participated in speech, and congress since eighth grade; UCFMA volunteering and tutoring since ninth grade and has also had piano, violin, dance, and Chinese lessons since middle school.

Yan plans to attend a west coast college to study computer science and product design. Yan also was the recipient of the Student of the Year Award from the West Fargo Exchange Club and will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Club to help fund her secondary education.

The West Fargo Exchange Club Student of the Month for March for West Fargo High School is Magenta Thai.
Thai was nominated by Suzanne Thibert for the Student of the Month.
Thai had taken dual credit classes, advanced placement classes and Honors English and AVID 9 and AVID 10. Thai was Key Club Officer for two years. She was in Art Club, and French Club 10. Thai
was on the Relay for Life Fundraising Committee and collaborated with the Packer News.
Thai was National Honors Society candidate and member. She had perfect attendance her freshman year, she received her Academic Award her junior year and Exchange Club Student of the Month her senior year.
Thai was active in Feed My Starving Children, Spirit of Giving, Meals on Wheels, Christmas Bags for
Needy Students, National Honor Society and trash pickup at Lindenwood Park.

The West Fargo Exchange Club Student of the month for April for Sheyenne High School is Chloe
Martinson.
Martinson was nominated for her for Student of the Month by Seth Lachowitzer. Chloe’s parents
are Jeremy and Lois Martinson.
Throughout high school, Martinson has participated in all choirs offered, participated in the school musical during her sophomore year and has done several extracurricular choir events as well as being an officer.
She has maintained high grades all throughout high school and has enjoyed taking as many social studies electives as possible. She is an officer of National Honors Society, which has helped her volunteer over 35 hours within the community over the past two school years.
Martinson plans to attend North Dakota State University with the goal to major in history education, with hopes to teach at the high school level upon completion.

The West Fargo Exchange Club’s April Student of the Month for the West Fargo High School is Reet
Goyal.
Goyal was nominated for this award by Jeffrey Mueller.
Goyal has taken several advanced placement courses, European History, Physics I, Algebra-Based biology, junior and senior English and chemistry. Goyal has also taken several dual credit courses, fundamentals of public speaking, statistics, and anatomy/physiology I and II.
Goyal has played on the varsity WFHS girls tennis team since seventh grade. She was captain, and
received athletic varsity letter’ awards 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Goyal received the
“Hardest Worker” Award in 2018; and served as the WFHS boys tennis team manager. Goyal participated in student council, National Honors Society and drum line.
Goyal has job shadowed doctors, assisted with running Relay for Life Program, Feed My Starving Children and Fill the Dome as well as Imperial Education and Welfare Society.

The West Fargo Exchange Club’s May Student of the Month for Sheyenne High School is Matthew Stiel.
Stiel was nominated by Tony Peterson for the Student of the Month award and his parents are Stephannie Stiel and Thomas Stiel.

Steil has been in theatre for all four years of high school. Through theatre alone, he has more than 80 hours of volunteering with the set. In his sophomore year Steil received one of four choice awards given by the Sheyenne Theatre Department. He has been in choir for four years and for the past two years, has been a part of the Sheyenne High School Madrigals. Last year Steil as part of a performance that received an outstanding performance for a piece performed. He has played soccer for the past three years and joining track his senior year.
Stiel plans to attend University of Minnesota Duluth to major in mechanical engineering at Swenson College of Science and Engineering.

The West Fargo Exchange Club’s May Student of the Month for West Fargo High School is Heidi Johnson.
Johnson was nominated by Christina Walker for Student of the Month and her parents are Shayli and Greg Johnson.
Johnson has been involved mostly in music. She has participated in both jazz band and jazz ensemble. She is in the pit orchestra anytime there is a musical at the high school. Johnson plays at pep rallies and at pep band events. She is in Wind Ensemble (the auditioned band), and she is a member of SAGA Club at school and performed at the Drag Show this past year. Johnson has volunteered three years to help Feed My Starving Children.
Johnson plans to attend North Dakota State University next year to work on a master’s degree in Chemistry. After college graduation she plans to pursue her doctoral degree.

The West Fargo Exchange Club Student of the Year Award for West Fargo High School is Emily Klaman.
Klaman was the Student of the Month for October and was nominated by Cody Christie. Klaman will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the West Fargo Exchange Club to help pursue her secondary education. Klaman plans to pursue a degree nursing and attend Minnesota State University Moorhead.

The Student of the Year Award for the West Fargo Community High is Journie Dupree. Dupree is a
student that brings a positive energy into the high school every day. Dupree works to the best of her ability every day and engages in discussions with her teachers on strategies to improve her grades.
Dupree is an active member in student leadership and is a key role model for what a student leadership member should be.
Dupree will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the West Fargo Exchange Club to help her pursue her secondary education.
