SELINSGROVE — Susquehanna College has named Katherine Straub as dean of the Faculty of Organic and Social Sciences. Straub has been serving as interim dean considering that August.
As dean of the School of Pure and Social Sciences, Straub will oversee eight tutorial departments comprised of 71 school members.
Straub joined Susquehanna in 2002 as assistant professor of earth and environmental sciences. She was promoted to associate professor in 2008 and reached entire professor standing in 2014, at which time she was also elected chair of the Division of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
In 2017, Straub was named director of Susquehanna’s Middle for Environmental Schooling and Investigation. In this place, she established the Place of work of Sustainability and hired and mentored the university’s 1st sustainability coordinator, both of which led to Susquehanna’s 2020 silver certification by the Affiliation for the Progression of Sustainability in Increased Education and learning Sustainability Monitoring and Reporting Program.
As director of the CEER, Straub also oversees the Freshwater Investigation Institute, an externally funded ecology lab with two whole-time employees users, and the 87-acre CEER property adjacent to campus that consists of a 3-megawatt solar array, ecology and environmental science study internet sites, a demonstration riparian buffer, apiary and a pupil-run campus backyard garden. She formulated a 2021 summer time internship application by the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Instruction that placed pupils with spouse businesses and supplied intentional vocational discernment programming, anything she ideas to broaden on as dean. She also co-wrote proposals main to $1.6 million in funding to assist the work and analysis of the FRI.
Straub gained her bachelor’s degree in earth and planetary sciences from Harvard College in 1994. She went on to get paid her master’s diploma and doctorate in atmospheric science from Colorado Condition College in 1999 and 2002, respectively.
